Cheap Activities To Do With Your Kids
Doing cheap activities with your kids may be needed when you are trying to save some extra cash. Maybe because you are trying to pay off some debt or possibly you are saving for a new home.
We all go through it and it can be more difficult for some depending on your spending habits. I know first hand how hard it is to save money when you have a family.
Most weekends people like to do fun activities with their family, so they can spend quality time with their kids. Sometimes that can come with a big price tag.
I’m here to help (as much as I can!) I know for us it took awhile to find cheap activities to do with our kids that wouldn’t be too expensive. We got there it just took us some time!
The Best Activities That Are Cheap You Can Do As A Family:
Go To The Park
I know it sounds cliché but kids love the park! My daughter can’t get enough of it, and we try to take her at least once a week.
The best part is you don’t need to spend any money. You can easily take some snacks from home, or make it a picnic with different types of food, or maybe even bring some tennis rackets or a soccer ball. The possibilities are endless!
Go Window Shopping
It might sound a little crazy to some but sometimes we just like to get out of the house and that is enough.
You can go to the mall or one of your favorite stores, get a cheap snack or beverage and walk around as a family. Do some window shopping maybe take notes of what you want to buy in the future.
It’s a great feeling to have control of spending your money just because you have it doesn’t mean you should spend it, and its not necessary to spend money to have a good time with your family.
This is a good way to get out of the house and enjoy time with your family. We definitely do! Even it being as simple as it is.
Go To The Beach
Living in California we love being able to go to the beach when we feel like it. If you do not live near a beach you can always go to your nearest lake! We do that as well.
Going to the beach is relatively cheap. Just make some sandwiches at home bring some chips and your set. You can get out of the house and relax as well as entertain your kids. The best of both worlds!
This is a new one for us we have recently starting going to the lake and my husband’s new hobby is fishing. This is similar to going to the beach and as a family we love it.
My daughter is now practicing with her little fishing pole and couldn’t be happier. It’s nice to get kids out of the house, in this day in age kids are more likely to stay inside.
The best part its cheap as well and that is more money in your pocket to save!
Have A Family Hike
Getting outdoors is always a good option. Everyone gets a little bit of exercise and have some fun as well. It’s best to look up the best hiking trails around you and pick the best one you feel is suited for adults and children.
Remember to bring some snacks with you (kids always love snacks) and of course a couple bottles of water. You are good to go! A nice family activity that you can feel good about after.
Take A Walk Together
Similar to taking a hike another option is to take a quick walk. This is a little bit easier for younger kids. Take a walk in the neighborhood or you can go to your local park to stroll around.
Just simply getting out of the house is enough for the kiddos. When you are trying to save money it can even be enough for the adults. Family time is what matters.
Make It A Movie Night
This is a classic. Movie nights are always fun. Make it an experience with your kids. If you want maybe buy some cheap candy or popcorn. I’m sure your kids will appreciate a good movie night with some sweet treats.
Choose a Red box movie or you can always watch a familiar one you have all seen and love. You might be spending a couple dollars here and there but it is much less then going to the movie theater with all of your family.
I know this one might sound a little weird (I know it did to me at first!) This activity can be fun for smaller children.
Take a walk with your family and have your kids pick out a couple rocks they like. They then can paint whatever they want on them, kids love to paint so this can be a lot of fun for them, and of course cheap!
After they dry you can leave them in your neighborhood or a nearby park. This is what we have done in the past and my daughter loved it! She wanted to show off all her creations.
Not everyone is fond of baking but it can be a bonding experience with your kiddos. Using boxed mixes is fine or if you feel like making it from scratch by all means go ahead. Personally I usually use the baking mixes from the store and that does just fine with us!
Kids usually like to help their parent’s bake. More then likely they will love to help in the beginning, and they will love when they get to eat that delicious treat at the end!
Take A Family Camping Trip
Camping…who doesn’t love camping! It is usually relatively cheap as long as you have most of the supplies from previous trips. You will have to buy food and bring the necessities like a tent and sleeping bags of course.
Kids usually appreciate a good camping trip and it is a great way to get some quality time in. I always loved camping as a kid and have great memories from those trips.
Depending on where you are you can find some fun activities to do in the day time. Being by the fire roasting marshmallows for s’mores is a staple for nighttime as well.
These are some great activities you can do either in your free time or on the weekend with your family that won’t break the bank. What are your families favorite activities when you are trying to save money?
